God Gives!

A rich lord once ruled over a place. He gave liberally to everyone who came to him asking for help.

Two poor people used to come to him for charity and he generally gave them food and cash. On getting the charity, the older one, used to say: “God gives.” The other person, the more youthful of the two, would agree: “Our lord gives.” On one occasion the lord gave them more cash than expected, whereupon the older man shouted out robustly: “God gives.”

This irritated the ruler who thought: “I’m taking care of him and he continues to say: ‘God gives, God gives.’ It is time he realized who his helper is.

The following day after he had given them charity, he requested that both of them go by a street which was used rarely, rather than their usually one. “I have provided to one of you, God will provide for the other.” He ensured that the person who generally appreciated him went first. He had already ordered that a bag of gold be kept out and about in their way, hoping that the young man would track it down. However, as the young man strolled not too far off, he asked himself, why the lord had sent him that way. “Maybe he wants me know how secure even this rarely used street is” he thought. “It is without a doubt a lovely wide street. One can stroll with eyes shut.” And he shut his eyes. Thus he missed seeing the bag of gold. It was spotted by the older poor person, who was coming behind him.

The following day, the lord enquired, if they had found anything on the way he had sent them and he expected the young man to give him a positive reply. However, the youngster shook his head. “It was a very beautiful street,” he said “Yet, I did not find anything on it.”

“Yes, I did,” said the older man “I found down a bag of gold. God gives.”

However, the ruler wanted to show the older man that he was their actual giver. So while the poor people were leaving the place, the ruler got back to the young man and gave him a pumpkin. The pumpkin had been emptied out and loaded up with silver coins. However, the young man didn’t have a clue about that. So he sold it to a vendor for a couple of coins.

The following day the ruler inquired as to whether anything exciting had happened. “Nothing,” said the poor person. “I received a couple of additional coins than expected, by selling the pumpkin you had given me.” The ruler made a good attempt not to show his disappointment. “What about you? he asked the other poor person “Did you also acquire more than expected? “I positively did,” said the older man, “As I was passing by a vendor’s shop, he called me and gave me a pumpkin. When I returned home and cut it, it was filled with silver, as I always say, “God gives.”
